Europe trip 2024 – Logistics

When planning a holiday to another country, there is a lot more to consider than just where you want to go and what you want to see. How will you get there? Where will you stay while you are there? How will you get around while you are there?

These are all very important aspects of the trip and definately need to be decided upon before you even book your plane ticket. Well, I think so anyway 🙂

Again, I did a lot of reading of different blogs and information that I could find on the internet. Then I spoke to friends who have been abroad about their experiences. There is no such thing as too much information. The more you know, the better qualified you are to make the “best” decision for you.

So lets look at the first part of the equation. How are we getting there? Well thats kind of a no brainer really. I don’t fancy swimming or a long boat trip so we will fly. Australia to London to be precise. At this stage the plan is to go in March 2024. Prices are pretty close to being the best this time of year. Right at the start of the shoulder season meaning less crowds and lower prices for many services.

The next thing to consider is accommodation. This obviously depends on where you plan to trvel to and how long you are going to stay. For us, we intend to be in Europe for 4 weeks. Thats 28 nights. That can become quite costly for 3 people. After conversations with people who have been and done longer trips like this, I decided that the most cost effective and convenient thing for us to do would be to rent a motorhome. This takes care of accommodation and transport. It also allows us to go where and when we want.

Again, March appears to be the ideal month when it comes to price on motorhomes as well. In fact I was extremely surprised to find that we could rent a good sized motorhome for 28 days incuding insurance for under $5000 AUD. This was a no brainer really.

The benefits of having a motohome are many. Our transport to wherever we want to go is sorted. We can unpack our gear once and dont need to repack till the holiday is over. No check out times to keep in mind. The other great thing is that most motohomes have bike racks on them so you can also hire some pushbikes for those short day trips into the busy areas where its no convenient to drive a motohome.

So thats the logistics taken care of. Well, on paper it’s taken care of. That’s the plan, lets see how easy it all comes together when we get to the booking stage followed by the actual trip.

Europe Holiday for 2024

Europe has always fascinated me. The sheer history of this continent just boggles my mind. And for someone in their mid 50’s, planning my first trip to Europe can be a little nerve-racking. At this stage of my life, the furthest abroad I have travelled from Australia is Singapore. A mere 8 hour flight. A drop in the pond compared to the trip between Australia and London which is where I plan to begin the European holiday.

I have done much reading and research already over the last few weeks. The internet is a fantastic wealth of information from literally thousands of people who have documented their own travels many many times. It’s pretty easy to find the answers to almost any question you have about travelling.

So my plan at this stage will be for myself and 2 of my daughters to go to Europe on a 4 week holiday. First stop, London. What next? Well, that’s all part of the planning and as soon as the 3 of us are all home at the same time, we will begin those plans and I will post as more information comes to hand.

Life is change!

Late last year I made the decision to step away from live performance and focus on other areas of my life. I wanted to put more effort back into another area I enjoy which is photography. As any working musician knows, its hard to find money for any other hobbies when all your money gets spent on music gear 🙂

I also wanted to have less committments taking up my time. Now that I have had more time to consider the future, I am turning my focus to travel. Something that will go hand in hand with my love of photography. So with that in mind, I am focusing on my first trip to Europe in 2024.

So I decided to bolg about the whole process along the way. The planning, logistics and reasoning behind my choices. It will also serve as reminders for future trips and who knows, someone might get some good tips from my mistakes 🙂

So lets begin!

Looking for a change

This song was written several years ago. No real meaning to it but it turned out to be a nice little tune. Keyboards on the track were played by my good friend Matt Northeast. It’s a simple song and I like it that way.

Available on all streaming platforms. Enjoy.

Life goes on

Life goes on is a tribute to a beautiful young lady taken from the world far too early. Shontae Amy Miller was my oldest Son’s partner at the time. In January 2011, she unexpectedly passed away from a heart abnomality that no one even knew she had. I’ll never forget the phone call from my Son and the days that followed. I wrote this song the same day. The words just fell onto the page. This song now hold fast as our memory of Shontae and the mark she left in our life. RIP young lady.

You can hear this song on all streaming platforms.

Last Love

Everyone loves to reminisce about their first love. I decided it was far better to focus on your last love. So I wrote this song for my last love 🙂

Available of all good streaming platforms. Enjoy 🙂

Rearview Mirror

This is one of those songs that is not about anything or anyone even if it sounds that way. The idea for this song came early one morning when leaving a town in outback QLD after a gig there the night before.

As we left the town limits, the drummer commented at how good the town looked in the rearview mirror. I decided it was a good title for a song. So, here it is.

Available of all good streaming platforms. Enjoy 🙂

You’re a Friend of Mine

I wrote this song several years ago. It’s about growing up as a kid back in high school with a very small select group of friends. Its a song of reflection and reminiscing.

You can find it on any good streaming platform. Enjoy 🙂

What if we

Upcoming release ‘What if we’ is a song that I call my ‘Imagine’. The song does not hide its meaning at all. The inspiration for the song came from current world events and John Lennon’s idealism that he voiced in his song ‘Imagine’.

The song asks the questions, what if we? We as a single race. The human race. Where John asked us to imagine a world with nothing to bias us, I am asking people to think about what the world would be like if we could overcome the obstacles that divide us.

I am a true believer in the idea that as musicians, we have the ability to make people think. To plant idealisms into the mind of the world. We are one world, one race.

Enjoy it on your favourite streaming platform.
