Life is change!

Late last year I made the decision to step away from live performance and focus on other areas of my life. I wanted to put more effort back into another area I enjoy which is photography. As any working musician knows, its hard to find money for any other hobbies when all your money gets spent on music gear 🙂

I also wanted to have less committments taking up my time. Now that I have had more time to consider the future, I am turning my focus to travel. Something that will go hand in hand with my love of photography. So with that in mind, I am focusing on my first trip to Europe in 2024.

So I decided to bolg about the whole process along the way. The planning, logistics and reasoning behind my choices. It will also serve as reminders for future trips and who knows, someone might get some good tips from my mistakes 🙂

So lets begin!

Singapore

I recently went on a weeks holiday in Singapore. What a beautiful city it is. I also found the locals pretty friendly and for the most part, it struck me as a very safe place to be.

No doubt there is crime of some level but it was certainly not evident. As a foreigner in a strange country, it was nice to feel at ease as we walked around the streets and through the markets.

We did the usual tourist things. A day at the Singapore Zoo was a great adventure. It also rained for 3 hours straight on the day we went. A word of advice. Carry a rain poncho with you. It can save the day if you get caught.

We still had a great day and the mini train that drives around the zoo can really help get you around things faster and makes for a fun way to ease the walking for the kids.

Gardens by the bay was another great way to spend a day. Located on the island of Sentosa, these gardens are simply spectacular. They are also completely indoor and climate controlled. So it might be an extremely humid 30 degrees outside, but in here it feels like a cool spring morning.

The indoor waterfall is a work of art. This was easily a great way to spend a day in Singapore. Once you have finished exploring the gardens, there is one more specialty to witness.

The Gardens by the bay evening light show. A lovely way to end the day. Among other things we visited in Singapore there was Universal studios. A full day is required for this fun place. I also highly recommend buying the skip the line pass for the rides. It really made the day so much better. The transformers ride was incredible.

We also went to the S.E.A Aquarium and Madam Tussauds wax museum. A visit to china town is also a nice adventure. The food in the street stalls was incredible and cheap. Street markets are also a great way to spend a few hours and pick up some gifts and keepsakes.

Needless to say, our week in Singapore was a fantastic getaway and we look forward to returning in the near future.

The Life of Me!

Today I decided to finally do something with my domain and create a little blog here to add stories, memories and rants about life in general.

So who am I? My name is Geoff. I’m a musician and audio engineer.

I have been a musician I guess since I started playing guitar at the age of 13. However, I didn’t begin professionally until I was 18. So as of this post writing, I have been a professional musician for 34 year and counting.

I have had various other jobs over the years whilst trying to “Make it” in the music industry. I gave up on the idea of any real commercial success when I was around 40. It has not stopped me playing or writing music, but now I am at the stage where I just want to do what I enjoy.

Along the road of life I have become a father to 8 wonderful children and a step father to 2 others who are also wonderful. As of yesterday, I am grandfather to 5 beautiful kids.

And last but certainly not least, I am an audio engineer. I work for various companies do sound, lighting and audio visual tasks when and where required. This is a job that I enjoy almost as much as playing music itself and just like music, it has taken me all across the country.

So thats a little bit about me and my life. Stay tuned for more stories as I get inspired to write.
